Sun City residents travel to Chandler for ‘Price is Right’ traveling show

More than 30 residents from the Royal Oaks LifeCare Community and parishioners from Lakeview United Methodist Church in Sun City traveled to the Chandler Center for the Arts to participate in a traveling “The Price is Right,” show. They were joined by 1,500 others who filled the seats at the auditorium.

The Royal Oaks contingency wore bright-green T-shirts that said “Come on down, the Place is Right,” compliments of Royal Oaks’ marketing department; the “place” being Royal Oaks.

Nobody from Royal Oaks or the Lakeview church were called to “come on down,” but they cheered those selected. Game show host Drew Carey was a no-show, since it was a traveling event, but fellow game show host Todd Newton handled the audience and the duties.

One of the contestants related that she had bought tickets for her and her young friend because the young friend’s mother, who was an avid “Price is Right” watcher, had passed away. The duo won a trip for two to Ireland.

Then, it was off to the final round, the showcase prizes including a trip to Rome and Hollywood and a Kia car, but those prizes stayed in Chandler after the two contestants overbid the amount.

Nada Kennon, from Royal Oaks, and Helen Fisher, from the church, led the parade of hopefuls and received praise for organizing the junket.
