Gregory Way, a Sun City resident and stroke survivor, was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2019. He was given five years to live, but has surpassed the estimate. To keep fresh, he trains his brain with puzzles.
One of those puzzles was the creation of an app, called Conversation Bridge, designed to help people who have trouble speaking or are deaf. The program listens to an individual talk before turning their speech into text on the screen. The disabled individual can then use a suggested response, which the app provides based on the conversation.
Gregory felt the need for this because he has speech problems in his everyday life that makes talking an “exhausting hurdle.”
