Sun City PRIDES clean up own park

Part of ongoing tasks for group

Continuing their ongoing efforts to keep Sun City beautiful, Sun City PRIDES volunteers descended on PRIDES Park at Peoria and 105th avenues for a cleanup morning.

Maricopa County officials approved the PRIDES Park planting plan and had installed irrigation so that work could begin.

Volunteers first completed a cleanup of PRIDES Park then got busy planting a variety of drought-tolerant flowering bushes, such as lantana, Katie Ruellia and damianita. They also planted elm and red push pistache trees.

The park project was coordinated by the Sun City PRIDES Beautification Committee Chairman Mike Will. According to Mr. Will, the only task remaining to be done at PRIDES Park is the removal of petiole bases from the trunks of three palm trees. The PRIDES are hoping that one of the many landscaping companies that are successful in Sun City will step forward to volunteer their services.

In addition to regular cleanup activities on the Sun City boulevards, tree trimming and flowering bush trimming are in full swing. Tree planting is almost complete on 107th and Alabama avenues.

The next monthly meeting of the Sun City PRIDES is 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 in the social hall at Bell Recreation Center, 16820 N. 99th Ave.
