Sun City’s National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Agua Fria Chapter, recently donated items for the nonprofit Phoenix Justa Center, located at 1001 W. Jefferson St.

The center serves about 250 homeless seniors over the age of 55, including veterans and women.

Justa Center Executive Director Dean Scheinert was the program speaker at the Agua Fria group’s January meeting. Following a 30-year portfolio and asset management career in New York City and Connecticut, Scheinert and his family moved to Phoenix where he began his work in Arizona’s nonprofit community as a member of multiple boards and full time executive.

Scheinert previously served as chief operating officer with St. Joseph The Worker and in development roles for the Musical Instrument Museum and Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West.

He spoke about the different services the Justa Center provides for the homeless, like daily shelter from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., two nutritious meals a day, machines to do laundry, showers, personal care, mail room and lockers to store their medicines. Volunteers help the homeless with health care, legal assistance, military benefits, computers to seek jobs and more. Last year they were able to help place more than 100 people in low-income housing.

The site operates totally from donations and grant money. Anyone can visit and drop off donations at any time. Call 602-254-624 or fax 602-254-2544 for more information.
