On any given week, Andrew Darian can be found at Desert Marigold School in Phoenix creating meaningful work. Recently that included knitting prayer shawls and carving small wooden comfort birds for people navigating loss. Through these simple acts, Darian helps cultivate a culture of compassion across the Phoenix metro area, including Sun City, the northwest Valley, Tempe and ventral Phoenix.
For Darian, who serves as board president of Doing Grief, a 501(c)(3) Arizona tax-exempt nonprofit, the work is personal.
“Grief can make people feel set apart from the world,” he said. “What we’re building here is a way back into connection where people feel seen and supported.”
