Sun City golf car driver hit while traveling on Loop 303

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash involving a vehicle and a man driving a golf car near Loop 303 just north of Mountain View, said DPS Spokesman Bart Graves.

About 12:15 p.m., a 78-year-old of Sun City driving the golf car was struck by another vehicle on Loop 303 near Mountain View in Surprise. The Sun Citian suffered severe head injuries in the accident, according to DPS

“This gentleman and his golf cart were in the No. 3 lane when he was struck by a work truck. No one else was hurt. He was alone in the golf cart," Graves said.

It is illegal for golf cars to be on the freeway, Graves said.

The man’s wife said the Sun City resident is suffering from early stages of dementia.

The man was transported to a local hospital, Graves said. No other information was available.
