Sun City Fire Marshal warns of DIY repairs

It starts with a YouTube video and a trip to Home Depot. It can end with firefighters on your lawn.

Sun City Fire District Fire Marshal Kenny Kovac recently wrote a letter urging residents to stop attempting home repairs. He stated firefighters have responded to multiple fires in recent months traced back to residents performing their own plumbing and home maintenance work without the proper training or credentials. He added many of the repairs have resulted in major damage and “placed lives at risk.”

“Many residents believe they can save money by performing repairs themselves,” he stated in the letter. “Unfortunately, what may appear to be a simple plumbing repair often involves the use of torches, electrical components, or gas connections.”
