Feasibility study failed to show benefit

In a meeting that saw the reseating of David Vandernaalt and Phil La Barbera and the addition of Charles Vickers to the Sun City Fire District board, the members voted to opt out of a potential merger with the Arizona Fire and Medical Authority based on the results of long-awaited feasibility study.

The meeting opened with Vandernaalt, La Barbera and Vickers being sworn onto the board. Vandernaalt and La Barbera are serving a second four-year term. Vickers was sworn in as a new board member and the first to represent Youngtown, where he serves as vice mayor. Vickers also served as a Youngtown councilman and has years of experience in the trade unions as an electrician with knowledge of construction, maintenance and safety of residential and commercial structures.

In his role as councilman and vice mayor, he has worked with SCFD to support its operations and applications for grant funding.
