Anything goes and there are no right or wrongs to this very loose genre. It is just fun.”

Artists by The Lake will meet 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7. Bring a snack to share. There will be a critique by Bruce Cody at this meeting. The business meeting will begin after the critique. Members can bring a painting. The Artists by the Lake club is open to any resident with a valid RCSC card. Dues for 2020 must be paid; visit the art room to renew membership. The club will also have a booth at Discover Sun City 9-11 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the Sundial center.
The Artists by the Lake club has selected Lynn Mysel as its January artist of the month.
Ms. Mysel is native to the Bronx, New York, where she and her husband met in high school. They have lived in many locations but settled in Arizona in 1980 with their two small children.
They were self-employed for many years. Ms. Mysel did the bookkeeping and office management while her husband handled installation and sales for their alarm company. In 1999 they retired and Ms. Mysel returned to college to get an interior design degree. In 2006 they relocated to southern California to start a new business with their daughter. After nine years they retired again and in 2016 moved back to Arizona and Sun City.
Ms. Mysel describes her art as a little of everything. She has tried watercolor, acrylic painting and has settled into pastel.
“Pastel is my favorite medium but now I’m learning oil!” said Ms. Mysel. “I’m also an avid quilter, fiber artist, bag and tote designer! I also love mixed media art journaling. Anything goes and there are no right or wrongs to this very loose genre. It is just fun.”
Ms. Mysel will offer a mixed media journal workshop 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 for a $10 materials fee. It is open to Artists by the Lake club members. Her artwork is on display outside the club room in the case on the second floor of the Lakeview Recreation Center.
