Sol Flower offers wellness classes in Sun City

April sessions open for enrollment


Residents can learn to stay healthy in mind, body and spirit through classes offered by Sol Flower of Sun City in April.

Sol Flower of Sun City, 13650 N. 99th Ave., is a mixed-use dispensary complex with adjoining cafe and classroom. The Sol Flower classroom is open to the public and offers wellness courses covering a full spectrum of health care topics. Most classes are free, unless otherwise noted. April highlights include Cannabis for Seniors, new art classes, a lesson on acupuncture, meditation with tapping, a parenting and cannabis worship led by Parisa Rad, also known as the Marijuana Momma, and an Earth Day celebration with in-house tea event.

Attendees are encouraged to stop by the Sol Flower Cafe, next to the classroom, and purchase a healthful bite to eat and drink before or after classes. Sol Flower is open seven days per week.

Cannabis for Seniors is scheduled 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 8; 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 14; and 2 p.m. Tuesday April 28. This class is free. Participants can learn tips on how to start using medical cannabis, methods of consumption, dosing and how to titrate their medication. The course offers a question and answer session with a senior patient specialist and provides information specific to senior health care topics. Jane Fix, Sol Flower patient education director, leads the class.

Pop ART is scheduled 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, featuring Andy Warhol; 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, featuring Roy Lichtenstein; and 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, featuring Keith Haring. There is no cost, but online pre-registration is required. Participants will learn how to paint like the masters. This creative and meditative class includes a brief history of painting styles, artists and masterpieces from different periods and art movements. Attendees will receive demonstrations and hands-on training in the painting techniques of the masters.

Emotional Freedom Technique “Tapping” is slated 2:30 p.m. Saturdays, April 4, April 18 and May 2. There is a $10 charge and pre-registration is required. Tapping is a gentle tapping technique that resolves negative feelings, thoughts and emotions, cravings, and emotional and physical pain. The American Medical Association approved clinical EFT as an

evidence-based modality that works on PTSD and other serious psychological disorders.

Acupuncture East Meets West is scheduled 1 p.m. Monday, April 6. There is no cost and enrollment includes a 105 discount coupon for the Sol Flower Cafe. Participants will learn about different acupuncture from the East and West. This is not an interactive class, but focuses on education of acupuncture and how it can be used to better the self.

Parenting and Cannabis workshop is scheduled noon-1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11. General admission is free, but VIP swag bags are $25, including a parenting and cannabis book, plus CBD samples valued at $60. The workshop is designed for parents, patients and caregivers and is presented by Ms. Rad. This workshop will cover best practices for parents and patients and include handouts with useful family resources. Children are welcome and will be provided a coloring activity.

Celebrating Earth Day: Tea with an Herbalist is scheduled 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21. There is no charge.
