The North West Valley Veterans Association, in conjunction with Sunland Memorial, held a Memorial Day celebration at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City.

Numerous military and veteran-related organizations, including high school ROTC units, participated in the ceremony as military service flags were presented and colors posted.  Arizona Nurses Honor Guard made an award presentation and members of the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame was honored. The service included a Gold Star Wives wreath placement, a fly-over by the Falcon Warbirds flying vintage military aircraft and honor guard three-rifle volley and Taps by American Legion Post 94.

More than 2,500 small memorial flags were placed on all veteran graves in the military burial section of the cemetery prior to the ceremony.

The next ceremony is Veterans Day Monday, Nov. 11. In keeping with a long-standing American Legion Memorial Day tradition, Post 94 members also provided "memorial poppies"’ May 18 (Armed Forces Day) at Sam’s Club in Peoria.
