A lot of concern is coming out about the Recreation Centers of Sun City annual assessment and the way the recreation centers have been managed over the years.
I have lived here for 16 years, and whenever I complained in the past, I was scolded and mocked, being told it is not others’ fault if I didn’t plan well, I knew this when I moved here or I can just move away.
Now, people appear to be catching on to what is a serious issue for a lot of members. The RCSC has been guilty of pet projects, favoritism, misleading the paying members, subsidizing golf while allowing outsiders to enjoy that subsidy, and they even bought an empty building on Grand Avenue.
We spend millions for small groups of people. The Grand Avenue project is a good example, so the custom car guys can have a place for their cars. While nice for these guys, the rest of us can no longer afford these items.
The time has come for the right person to hire an attorney, measure the majority in Sun City and if the votes are there, disband the RCSC, selling the assets off to private companies, who will then run them correctly.
If the desire is there, the rec centers will survive. If not, they will die, as they should if they cannot stand on their own.
The same applies to golf. Golf is declining, and the courses cost more to maintain exponentially. That calls for closures, not subsidies. Time for that right person to step up and put an end to this fiasco. And what a bonus! If we sell the rec centers, we can divide the millions up among the 37,000 homes here. The majority of us could use the bonus.
