A program that has engaged and entertained memory care patients is now expanding to benefit assisted living residents at two Sun City care facilities: the Woodmark and the Gardens of Sun City.
The program, now called Share with Me, was developed by the Friends of the Sun City Libraries in 2017. Since resurging after COVID, it has evolved and changed from a read-aloud activity to a more enriching format of interactive engagement. Volunteers make brief presentations using a combination of art, music, pictures, books and various props.
“These creative presentations stimulate memories and spark residents to share,” said Irene Nathanson, a member of the Friends board who oversees the program.

Kicking off the program’s expansion, Friends volunteer and Sun City resident Jim Reay was invited to present at the Gardens of Sun City. In observance of African American month, Reay presented to a group of assisted living residents where he shared music, memories and memorabilia from his travels to Africa.
“Presentations such as Reay’s, and our growth into assisted living, show the impact of the program and is solid evidence of its effectiveness” said Nathanson. “Presentations in Assisted Living are scheduled for once a month but can be held more frequently as the volunteer group expands.”
