Three people were sent to a hospital and an unborn child died following a multiple vehicle collision in southwest Phoenix, police said.
Officers were called to the crash scene near 51st Avenue and Baseline Road just before 2:45 p.m. Nov. 10 and found four vehicles involved in a collision.
The fire department responded and took three people to a hospital, including a pregnant female. Once there, the three adults were stabilized; however, the unborn child died while at the hospital, police said.
Detectives said preliminary information indicates a vehicle was heading south on 51st Avenue when it failed to stop for a red light at Baseline Road and rear-ended an SUV stopped at the light.
The SUV was pushed forward and caused two other cars to be rear-ended, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.
The pregnant woman was a passenger in the vehicle that failed to stop at the light, police said, adding information suggests speed was a factor.
A charging decision will be made at the conclusion of the investigation, the release stated.
