A 32-year-old woman was taken to a hospital Saturday after she was injured during an officer-involved shooting in Phoenix, police said.
Police officers were notified at approximately 3:20 p.m. Nov. 9 about a person with a knife walking around an apartment complex near 3400 North 12th Place, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.
Mountain View Precinct officers responded as information indicated a woman was “waving a large knife and banging on an apartment,” the release stated.
Officers saw the woman holding the knife at the top of stairs leading to two apartments and ordered her to drop it. She did not, and an officer used a 40mm launcher striking the suspect multiple times.
The suspect refused to drop the knife, stood up and began walking down the stairs toward officers.
“At this time, one officer discharged her duty weapon, while a second officer discharged his taser at the suspect, resulting in the suspect falling down and dropping the knife,” the release stated.
Officers began administering life-saving measures, and Phoenix Fire Department personnel arrived to take the woman to a hospital where she was listed in critical but stable condition Saturday night.
The knife used by the suspect was found at the scene.
No one else was injured.
