Detectives are investigating a collision that left a pedestrian dead early Thursday morning, Phoenix police said.

The crash occurred just before 6:30 a.m. Dec. 26 near 91st Avenue and Thomas Road.

Officers arrived to find the undentified woman in the street. Phoenix Fire Department personnel  said the woman died at the scene.

Preliminary information suggests  the woman was crossing the west side of the intersection, against the light, and was struck by a vehicle traveling east on Thomas Road, according to a release.

The driver involved was not seriously injured, remained at the scene and was evaluated. Impairment is not believed to be a factor, police said, adding an investigation is continuing.
