White powder forces evacuation at Arizona Capitol, FBI investigates

The Executive Tower at the Arizona State Capitol was evacuated Thursday afternoon after an envelope containing white powder was opened by a clerk in the office of Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, authorities said.

Federal authorities are investigating the Arizona case along with other letters with “suspicious substances” that have been mailed to congressional and election offices nationwide.

They urge recipients to treat the mailings as “potentially hazardous.”
