City of Chandler staff discovered the Aug. 12-13 storm wrecked the roof of the Chandler Center for the Arts enough for water to get inside the building.
With some Chandler residents encountering storm damage again this week, the city reminds people of what to do in advance of storms and some things that can be done upon discovering damage.
Chandler spokesperson Toni Smith said Aug. 13 that there was some weather-related cleanup required at Folley Park, located southeast of downtown, with parks crews working that in the morning.
Also, the roof at Chandler Center for the Arts was damaged during the overnight Aug. 12-13 storm. The building is currently being renovated, and while the roof wasn’t part of that project, water got inside of the building and damage was done.
There were also reports of medium damage to vehicles and other property around the city, though Chandler Police stated Aug. 13 that no roadways or lanes were closed due to the weather.
Matt Burdick, communications director for the city, said regarding private property damage due to storms, people should contact the owner of the property or the property manager if they rent/lease the property or if the property is part of a homeowner’s association. Owners should contact their insurance agency to file a damage claim and then select a private contractor or service provider to assess and repair the damage.
Regarding damage to public property, Burdick stated, residents should contact the Chandler Police Department via phone or text using the 911 line for emergencies or 480-782-4130 for non-emergencies.
Residents can report street flooding and maintenance issues by contacting Chandler’s Streets Division during work hours at 480-782-3500. On nights and weekends, residents can call or text the Chandler Police non-emergency line, 480-782-4130.
They also can use the "Chandler Public Stuff" mobile app and, if they can access the “contact us” page of chandleraz.gov, to report damage to public property
Calling 480-782-2000 can get calls routed to the appropriate area.
Regarding sandbags, city staff set up a do-it-yourself sandbag station located near Chandler’s Streets Division at 975 E. Armstrong Way.
Sand, bags and shovels are positioned along the north side of Armstrong Way and west of McQueen Road. Read more by clicking here.
