Family and friends of drowning victim Sean Bickings will host a vigil honoring him on May 20, a year after the tragic incident occurred.

A press release explained that 20-30 of Bickings's family and friends, including his mother and the family's attorney Benjamin Taylor, will hold the vigil to mark a year since Bickings's death. The vigil will be held on Saturday, May 20 at 6 p.m. at Tempe Town Lake near Tempe Center of the Arts where Bickings drowned.

The release stated Tempe police were first called to a water rescue at 5:13 a.m. on May 20, 2022, around one minute after Bickings got into the water.

According to the transcript of the incident, one officer said, “I’m not jumping in after you.”

Bickings's friend Benjamin Jeffrey recalled in the release, “What he said in his last words was 'help me, please!'" Bickings drowned shortly after.
