A Valley man was sentenced to 30 years in prison and a lifetime of probation for attempting to solicit sex from children.
Edmon Yohannes, 40, was convicted by a jury of two counts of child sex trafficking and two counts of attempt to commit sexual conduct with a minor in the case from 2022, according to a press release from the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
Investigators say Yohannes contacted an account on the app Grindr that belonged to an undercover Chandler Police detective that stated the owner was a father. Yohannes moved the conversation to another app and told the detective he was seeking sex with younger teens and children, according to the release.
During the conversation, Yohannes asked about the detective's children and if he could meet them for sex. He agreed to buy stuffed animals for a 5-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl in return for sex. After texting pictures of the stuff animals, Yohannes eventually showed up for an arranged meeting with the toys and was arrested.
His arrest was part of a multijurisdictional effort called Operation Tangled Web, according to the release.
