More than 56 pounds of fentanyl pills and methamphetamine headed from Phoenix to Denver were uncovered during a traffic stop along northbound Interstate 17 in Anthem, authorities said Thursday.

An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper stopped the driver of a Toyota Camry for moving and equipment violations on June 5. During the stop the suspect drove away leading to a pursuit on I-17, according to DPS.

The driver stopped at milepost 254 and was detained without further incident, officials said.

A search of the Camry turned up 54 pounds of fentanyl pills and 2.5 pound of methamphetamine, DPS officials said.

The driver, Omar C. Arias, 28, was booked into the Yavapai County Jail on charges that included unlawful flight from law enforcement, possession and transportation of a narcotic drug for sale, possession and transportation of dangerous drugs for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to DPS.
