Top draft pick AJ Dybantsa to miss the season opener for Wizards with a sprained ankle

WASHINGTON (AP) — Top draft pick AJ Dybantsa will miss the season opener for the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night with a sprained ankle.

Coach Brian Keefe said Tuesday that Dybantsa would not play against the Milwaukee Bucks. The Wizards took him No. 1 out of BYU in this year's draft.

Dybantsa is one of the reasons hopes are higher in Washington than in the recent past. The Wizards also added veterans Trae Young and Anthony Davis last season, but Davis didn't play at all in a Washington uniform. He's back now.

Dybantsa's debut will have to wait. The Wizards are also home Friday night against Toronto.

“He's going to be day to day,” Keefe said.
