First steps in plaza conversion have begun in Fountain Hills

Demolition was carried out at the far east end of the Four Peaks Plaza in Fountain Hills in what is proposed to be a major redevelopment project in the town.

The site that was cleared is planned for construction of a 23,000-square-foot Sprouts Farmer’s Market to anchor the east side of the plaza where the Target store is the main tenant at this time. The portion of the plaza that was demolished previously housed the Streets of New York restaurant and a Subway sandwich shop.

Fountain Hills council member charged in Tempe hit-and-run

Fountain Hills Town Councilmember Allen Skillicorn faced two charges related to an alleged hit-and-run collision that took place March 4, 2025, in Tempe, according to Tempe Municipal Court records.

The charges include failure to remain at an accident with damage and failure to provide information at an accident scene.

Formal complaints filed related to Fountain Hills Town Council discussion

At its Jan. 21 regular meeting, the Fountain Hills Town Council was involved in a heated debate over the revival of a telecommunications infrastructure ordinance passed by the previous council in September 2024.

As a result of that discussion there have been three ethics complaints filed against two council members and one complaint about an open meeting law violation reportedly filed with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.

Councilmembers Brenda Kalivianakis and Peggy McMahon had the ethics complaints filed against them for comments they made during the meeting. Those complaints were made by Crystal Cavanaugh, Liz Gildersleeve and Mathew Corrigan.

Tempe Police report outlines allegations against Fountain Hills Councilmember Allen Skillicorn

A Tempe Police Department report obtained by the Times Independent through a public records request outlines allegations against Fountain Hills Town Councilmember Allen Skillicorn related to a hit-and-run collision in Tempe March 4.

Skillicorn was charged with failure to remain at the scene of the collision and failure to provide information, both are class 1 misdemeanors.

According to the police report, Skillicorn was alleged to have been the driver of a Suzuki Grand Vitara involved in a collision just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, on University Drive east of McClintock Drive.

Good Living Greens announces grand reopening in Fountain Hills

After a relocation and expansion, the move nearly tripled the store’s footprint from 1,300 to almost 3,000 square feet. The new storefront is located at 16845 E. Avenue of the Fountains.

The new location is staffed with an additional three employees and operates longer hours, opening daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.

Update: Hit-and-run charges against Fountain Hills vice mayor dismissed

Hit-and-run charges related to a collision in Tempe against Fountain Hills Vice Mayor Allen Skillicorn were been dismissed, according to Tempe Municipal Court records.

During court proceedings Oct. 30, a charge of failing to remain at the scene of an accident and a charge of failing to provide information at an accident were dismissed on motions from the state.

Skillicorn did plead guilty to a new charge, however, speed greater than reasonable and prudent, which was added by the prosecution. He received a fine of $250 and court costs of $246.

Serious rollover crash in Fountain Hills sends three to hospital

Emergency responders in Fountain Hills were called to the intersection of Shea and Fountain Hills boulevards at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, following a two-vehicle collision that resulted in a rollover.

Three people involved were taken to the hospital for treatment, according to information from the Town of Fountain Hills. An adult male was transported in critical condition and a minor female was listed as in serious condition.

Court date for Fountain Hills Vice Mayor Skillicorn postponed

A pre-trial conference set for Fountain Hills Vice Mayor Allen Skillicorn for Thursday, Sept. 18, was postponed for a third time. A Tempe Municipal Court judge granted a defense motion to continue the conference according to court records.

The judge rescheduled the hearing for Thursday, Oct. 30, at Tempe Municipal Court.

Plans in place to bring Dairy Queen back to Fountain Hills

The project remained in the early stages of development, with construction and tenant improvements still to come.

The application for the new Dairy Queen was submitted in September. The Planning and Zoning Commission is expected to review the project in November, with a Town Council vote anticipated in December. If approved, a permit could be issued by early 2026, allowing construction to begin soon after.
