Today is the last day to make your tax year 2022 CHAPS donation
Posted
If you have not yet donated to the Scottsdale Charro Child Assistance Program Sponsor -- known as CHAPS -- you still have time. You can donate until you file your 2022 taxes.
Arizona residents may give up to $2,200 to the charities, foster care programs, and Scottsdale public schools of their choice, knowing that every dollar comes back to them as an Arizona State tax credit.
The Scottsdale Charros are an all-volunteer group of business and civic leaders dedicated to providing support and funding for youth programs, educational scholarships, and grants to local charities. Your support of CHAPs is vital to the Charros being able to maintain our level of support to more than 100 community organizations.
Arizona tax credit FAQs
Does this tax credit also apply to federal tax returns?
The Arizona Tax Credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction on your State taxes. Not just a deduction but actual tax credit. Check with your tax professional.
How do I know if I qualify?
The credit is for Arizona taxpayers with income filing as:
• Married filing jointly: up to $2,2000
• Single or unmarried head of household: up to $1,100
• Separate returns: up to $1,100
How do I claim the credit for contributions to a Qualifying Charitable Organization?
The credit is available only to individuals/couples filing in Arizona. The Qualifying Charitable Organization code is visible on the CHAPS website and will also appear on your donation receipt. Place this code on form 352 when filing your Arizona tax return in order to take your tax credit.
Do I qualify for the credit if I do not owe taxes at year-end?
The credit reduces your state tax liability independently from any tax that you may have withheld during the year. If you withheld an amount equal to or greater than your tax liability, the credit will increase your state tax refund. And, you may carry the credit forward for five years.
