Tempe leader named president of 100 Black Men nonprofit

Posted

Tempe leader Rabbanni FurQaan has been appointed as the new president of the 100 Black Men of Phoenix organization, marking the first leadership transition for the nonprofit in a decade.

FurQaan succeeds Prentice D. Moore, who has served as president for the past ten years and now assumes the title of president emeritus, a press release explained.

Moore said in the release that leading the nonprofit has been a journey marked by growth, collaboration and meaningful impact.

“From enhancing our mentoring programs and increasing membership to launching vital financial literacy and mental health and wellness initiatives, I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together,” Moore said.

He added that he has full confidence in the new leadership and that he looks forward to what’s to come for the organization.

This leadership change coincides with the introduction of a newly appointed board, with a few continuing members, poised to build on the organization’s mission to improve the quality of life within their communities and enhance educational and economic opportunities for people of color, the release explained.

FurQaan’s connection to 100 Black Men of Phoenix runs deep. As a junior high and high school student, he actively participated in the organization’s programs and later earned the prestigious Michael Hale Scholarship from The 100, allowing him to attend Arizona State University.

He joined the board in 2018, leading marketing efforts for the nonprofit before stepping into his new role as president.

Outside of his work with The 100, FurQaan is involved in sales operations at Lofty and serves as the current chair of the city of Tempe’s Human Relations Commission and vice chair of the Tempe Community Council board.

Now, as president, he is committed to paying it forward — strengthening the organization that helped shape him and ensuring future generations receive the same guidance and opportunities.

FurQaan said in the release that the organization’s future is built on a foundation of strong leadership, engaged mentorship and unwavering community support.

“I am honored to step into this role and continue the legacy of service, empowerment, and excellence that 100 Black Men of Phoenix stands for,” FurQaan said.

As president, FurQaan has outlined key priorities to guide his tenure. Priorities are:

  • Ensuring committees operate effectively to provide impactful programs for the community;
  • Enhancing the reach and support for the organization’s Four for the Future pillars — mentoring, education, health and wellness, and economic empowerment;
  • Amplifying the presence and visibility of 100 Black Men of Phoenix throughout the city and beyond;
  • Cultivating a community of mentors who inspire both personal and professional growth in the next generation of leaders.
