A Surprise police officer was involved in a crash Sunday night, according to a highway official.

On March 26 at about 7 p.m., the Surprise Fire-Medical Department responded to a three-vehicle collision near Grand Avenue and Dysart Road.

Battalion Chief Julie Moore said five people were involved, including the police officer.

An Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman stated one of the vehicles was a Surprise Police Department patrol vehicle.

Fire officials transported the officer to a nearby hospital with moderate injury. The driver and passenger of a second vehicle were transported with minor injuries while no one went to the hospital from the third vehicle.

In an email, Public Information Officer Raul Garcia stated everyone had been released from the hospital Sunday night.

Northbound Dysart Road north of Grand Avenue was closed for several hours.

Officials continue to investigate the collision.
