Surprise plans meetings on new resource center

Pair of information sessions scheduled for Original Town Site facility

The city of Surprise is hosting two informational community outreach meetings to share updates about the planned Multigenerational Community Resource Center.

The same information will be shared at both meetings so community members can pick the best time for their schedules.

The meetings will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at these times and locations:

  • 9 a.m. to noon at the Surprise Senior Center, 15832 N. Hollyhock St.
  • 4 to 7 p.m. at the Villanueva Recreation Center Gym, 15660 N. Hollyhock St.

Attendees will be able to learn more about the plans for the almost 33,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility being constructed in the Original Town Site at the northeast corner of Santa Fe Drive and Hollyhock Street.

It will include programming specifically for seniors, veterans, homeless outreach, adults with disabilities and youth. There will also be library services; offerings for community groups, clubs and nonprofit organizations; along with after school and summer youth programming.

The Multigenerational Community Resource Center will be surrounded by the Villanueva Recreation Center, Hollyhock Pool and Gaines Park.

Also adjacent to the property is a permanent supportive housing development and an affordable senior housing development (currently under construction), both in partnership with the Housing Authority of Maricopa County.

The new campus should be completed by the end of 2025. The center will serve the northwest Valley, expanding vital community programs that serve Surprise, the Sun Cities, El Mirage, Youngtown and unincorporated Maricopa County.
