WHAM Art Center is highlighting the work of longtime Surprise resident Lucas Costanzo, a ceramic artist who recently completed a large‑scale community art project honoring firefighters across Surprise and El Mirage.
The WHAM member and active creator in the Ceramic Studio crafted 67 handmade ceramic mugs as a personal tribute to the first responders he has admired since childhood.
Costanzo has lived in the Surprise area since he was young and has been drawn to large‑scale ceramic work. After returning to ceramics at the start of 2025 through WHAM’s studio programs, he dedicated months to refining his skills, researching techniques and saving for materials to take on his most ambitious project yet.
