The Palo Verde Patchers’ “Quilts for Causes” program supports several charitable causes through its 501(c)(3) designation. Members provide warmth and comfort to local families and children as well as local combat veterans. This labor of love has produced more than 5,000 donated quilts since 1998.

The Palo Verde Patchers Biennial Quilt Show helps fund the Quilts for Causes program and the 13th show will be Feb. 24 and 25, 2024 in Sun City West.  The Quilts for Causes program includes the following recipients:

Native American Connections was founded to “improve the lives of individuals and families through Native American culturally appropriate behavioral health, affordable housing, and community development services.”

Hand-tied quilts created by Palo Verde Patchers members for babies, children and adults provide warmth and comfort to the residents of 850 NAC housing units. Members also provide tote bags that program participants can use for shopping trips or when moving to a new location.

St. Francis Xavier School is located in central Phoenix and serves students from all income levels, cultural backgrounds and religious affiliations. The school provides a scholarship program for students whose families do not have the resources to pay the tuition. From time to time, teachers recognize students who would benefit from a warm blanket, a need that Palo Verde Patchers members are happy to fulfill.

The Honor Quilts group started at Palo Verde Patchers in 2006 as a branch of the national organization “Quilts of Valor,” a program with the goal that all combat-wounded service members receive a lap quilt for their service and sacrifice to the United States. Wishing to honor local veterans, the club changed its program name to Honor Quilts. Palo Verde Patchers’ members create patriotic themed quilts and present them to 2-3 combat veterans during monthly presentations held October through April.

Funding for Quilts for Causes programs are raised through the Palo Verde Patchers’ Biennial Quilt Show. The February show, titled “There’s No Place Like Home,” will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 24 and 25, 2024 at the Palm Ridge Recreation Center, 13800 W. Deer Valley Drive. The show features more than 200 quilts, a boutique and a raffle for a paper pieced and custom-quilted quilt. Tickets to the show are $5, available at the door and from club members, and includes discount coupons to local shops.
