Jack Dohallow will be the featured artist for the month of January, 2024 at the del Sol Gallery, 13815 West Camino del Sol. For Dohallow, the process of turning wood into captivating pieces of art is his passion. His inspiration for both his utilitarian pieces and his works of art is the fluidity of glass art and the colors of southwestern art.

Dohallow creates his masterpieces in his home studio. He uses a wood lathe, spinning the wood then carving the wood as it rotates. Preparing the wood, discovering its colors, textures, smells and uniqueness begins the process of designing one-of-a-kind art from raw, virgin wood.

From local to imported woods from around the world, he creates bowls, wine and oil bottle stoppers, small boxes for secret treasures, platters and vases. He uses natural oils and food safe finishing products for his functional pieces.

In 2003 Dohallow had the opportunity to work as a production wood turner allowing him to hone his skills daily. He attends multiple wood turning symposiums to keep current on new techniques and gain inspiration from fellow wood turning artists nationwide.

The First Friday Gallery Gala is 5-7 p.m. Jan. 5.
