Sun Cities traffic report forms available
Posted

Sun Cities residents now have an easier option to report traffic flow issues to Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
A near miss traffic incident report form was developed by the Sheriff’s Posse of Sun City West and has been in use this year. The Sun City Posse adopted the form and has it available for Sun City residents as well.
The forms are available online at www.scwposse.com and www.suncityposse.org. Both organizations also have copies of the forms at their headquarters, 20450 N. Stardust Blvd., in Sun City West and 10862 W. Sunland Drive in Sun City.
“You can call the Sun City Posse if you need help filling out the form,” said Tim Lambin, Sun City Posse spokesman.
Call 623-972-2555 for the Sun City Posse or 623-584-5808 for the Sheriff’s Posse of Sun City West.
The forms are used by Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office District 3 officials to track incidents in the two age restricted communities.
Under a traffic services program started April 1, MCSO officers are working specific areas of the communities to try and change the driving behavior of residents and nonresidents alike. In the first few weeks of implementation, the program saw some results, according to Capt. Paul Chagolla, MCSO District 3 commander.
“We have dedicated deputies for this program,” he said. “We are targeting the area with the most egregious problems.”

While MCSO officials are refining the data collection, Mr. Chagolla said during a May 16 Sun City Home Owners Association Roads and Safety Committee meeting that some raw data was available. He reported there were 560 traffic incidents through May 16. However, the system needs more work to refine the data to specifically within the Sun Cities areas. Right now Sun City has three patrol areas for Sun City and one for Sun City West. But there is some overlap with surrounding areas.
“We are working to narrow those down using mapping,” Mr. Chagolla explained.
He will turn to the posses, and possibly SCHOA and PORA in Sun City West for help.
“I am hoping to have these refinements complete in 30 days,” Mr. Chagolla said.
He added continued reporting of issues by residents will help identify any other areas of concern.
“Previous to implementation, we had only three contacts of people reporting bad driving,” he said. “We still need that reporting in real time for tracking purposes.”
Residents can also call the MCSO district office, 602-876-1602, or make comments on the MCSO website, www.mcso.org, to report traffic issues.
“Our focus is to change driving behaviors,” Mr. Chagolla said.
