The repainting of the many exterior walls throughout Sun City by Sun City Residents Action Program has progressed ahead of the original projection by the committee. In the beginning of 2016, committee members believed the plan for painting some 15 miles of walls throughout Sun City could take as long as 10 years and an estimated $250,000 to finish the job. To this point, about three miles, or some 100,000 square feet, of walls have been painted.

The walls completed so far are the west side of Boswell Boulevard from Highwood Lane to Willow Creek Golf Course, the north and south side of Bell Road from 98th Avenue to Lindgren Avenue, the east side of 99th Avenue from Concho Circle to Bell Road, both sides of Lindgren Avenue next to 99th Avenue, the east side of 99th Avenue from Grand Avenue to Pebble Beach Drive, the south side of Alabama Avenue next to 99th Avenue and some 10 sections of Olive Avenue. SCRAP is also looking to repaint the wall on the east side of 107th Avenue from Highwood Lane to the Willow Creek Golf Course.
According to Ritchie Miller, SCRAP treasurer, the community is becoming more and more aware of this wall painting project and donations are on the rise.
“We wants to thank SCHOA, the Sundial Men’s Club and APS for their substantial contributions, and EPCOR for supplying much needed water for the power washing of the walls,” Mr. Miller said. “The employees of APS and Wells Fargo Bank as well as several residents have pitched in some labor of love to see some of the walls get painted.”
The Sun City PRIDES pitched in and trimmed various bushes and cacti so the walls could be cleaned and painted.
“Without the support of contributors, this project could not continue,” Mr. Miller said.
Other contributors include TKS, Final Touch Painting, Phoenix House Painting and Artistic Painting Service. All are part of the Business Partner program vetted by SCHOA officials.
Pam Schwartz, SCHOA board president, is proud of the way Sun City residents and organizations have come together to see this project succeed. SCRAP has even received donations from individuals who do not live in Sun City.
Benjamin Roloff, SCHOA vice president, said it is amazing and very heartwarming to see all the cooperation.
“However, I am not surprised as for many years now I have witnessed a community that really comes together when need arises,” he said.
While the physical and financial help received by SCRAP has helped, there is still work to do and more donations needed.
