The initiative offers a range of services to support community members in need, including free hydration and cooling resources for unsheltered individuals and families, as well as free Narcan distribution and training to help prevent opioid overdoses.
The program offers safe spaces to cool down, access to water and refreshments, and information on additional community resources. It also emphasizes support over displacement, ensuring that individuals are given help rather than being pushed out of public spaces due to extreme weather. Outreach includes guidance on recognizing and preventing heat-related illnesses while providing compassionate care for those most in need.
Originally launched earlier this summer, the Heat Relief Program was designed to serve individuals experiencing homelessness and others who are particularly susceptible to heat-related health risks.
