Scottsdale family aims to raise awareness for pet, child safety during construction

Housework hazards pet owners may not be aware of

As a dog owner in Scottsdale, Julie Kessler thought she asked all the right questions of the roofing company. But what she and her family didn’t know was that a lightweight, clear plastic covering would be placed over the pool.

That attracted the family’s dog Oakley, who had never shown an interest in the pool before. In just moments, he fell into the pool and drowned.

Kessler had heard barking and ran outside, spotting Oakley under the covering. But by the time she jumped in and pulled him out, it was too late.
