While the issues seemed to take a back seat to personal attacks and arguing at the Independent Newsmedia July 7 candidate forum, they were discussed.
The seven candidates who participated did speak on a range of topics from the Axon world headquarters and the Museum Square development to water, the controversial parking garage being built at First Street and Brown Avenue, Proposition 490— which passed in 2025 is a 0.15% sales tax to pay for parks, the preserve and capital improvements at WestWorld and campaign financing.
Eight candidates are vying for three seats open this year. Incumbents Barry Graham and Solange Whitehead are seeking another term on the council and Kathy Littlefield’s seat is opening up because of term limits.
