Scottsdale Airport receives $11 million federal grant for runway rehabilitation

Project to commence July 6

Posted

Scottsdale Airport has officially received an $11 million federal grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to rehabilitate its runway.

This is the largest federal grant ever received by the airport and will cover the expenses to ensure the airport’s infrastructure is maintained in excellent condition and best serve all aircraft customers.

“This federal grant supports Scottsdale Airport and the vitally important role it plays in this region,” Gary P. Mascaro, aviation director, stated in the release.

The project is solely a rehabilitation and will not increase the runway length or weight capacity.

“It’s essential for the airport to provide a well maintained, safe and secure infrastructure to accommodate our aircraft operators,” Mascaro stated

With the award of this grant on June 10, the project is full steam ahead and expected to be completed in 45 days.

Preconstruction plans are in process and crews will be ready to start the project, as planned, at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6.

This project is scheduled during the airport’s slowest operational time, so it can be completed and ready for the fall when operations start its upswing.

The airport will be closed to all operations, aside from helicopters operating from the apron area.

“We want to retain our competitive advantages as an essential hub for general aviation and corporate activity,” Mascaro stated.

Scottsdale Airport is one of the busiest single-runway general aviation and corporate airports in the nation as well as a top corporate jet facility with over 195,800 operations just in 2020.
