Scott: Councilman Skillicorn’s actions don’t match his words

Posted

Councilman Skillicorn is not serving this community. Since his first day on the dais, he's done little except disrupt council (repealing, reinstating and now amending the sign ordinance, or prayer, or...) yet not following through.

Let's use his “roads first” example. He said that public safety is really first priority. Oops, oh well. Then he voted against the light at Palisades/Palomino, and the intersection improvements at Fountain Hills/Palisades. I guess those don't qualify as "roads." By the way, councilman, state facilities are labeled highways; county facilities are roads; cities and towns are streets. He can't even get the terminology right. But I digress.

Every time an important discussion about "roads" is on the agenda, he must dodge, duck, dive and dip participation. This isn't dodgeball. He either just isn't there or calls in on the phone. But thereafter, he revisits items at council meetings that he missed. Why can't he show up? That's why he ran, to represent us. He knew on Nov. 2 there was a street study session on Nov. 16. He was a no-show.

He belittled a citizen committee presenter by moving forward with a vote before he heard their presentation. This Citizen's Streets Advisory Committee put in many hard hours preparing for this presentation, all on a volunteer basis.

Meanwhile, he tried to claim that by cutting other programs, he can use these funds to fix our streets. But that's just not true. The costs far exceed his ability to fix. It's in the multi-millions and he opposes property taxes and bonds (he actively campaigned against the school bond proposal).

I can only guess that Councilman Skillicorn doesn't want to pinned in public because he must agree to a funding he just doesn't have.

He looks like a one-term kind of a guy to me.
