Samuel William McKnight, 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Sun City, AZ, on March 27, 2018, with his family and his girlfriend by his side. Mr. McKnight was born November 28, 1944 in Seattle, WA, to James and Mary.At an early age, Sam liked to play with his brothers and sisters at the beachs on Camano Island, WA. He proudly served in the Navy on the USS Midway. After his service, his love of the ocean brought him to a career as a Merchant Marine. He worked his way up to 3rd Mate and could sail any vessel, at any tonnage, on any sea in the world.After many years of sailing, Sam came home to raise his family in Bothell, WA and worked as a Marine and Dock Safety Inspector for the State of Washington.He retired in 1996 and relocated to Arizona. Sam devoted his life to helping others in every fashion; he gave his personal time; donated money monthly, even though he was on a fixed income; spent his spare time giving thoughts and prayers to others. Sam did everything he could for others, he was selfless, and he would give you the shirt off his back. That is the way he lived his life.He spent the last couple of years of his life enjoying the company of his girlfriend Donna Rawson.Mr. McKnight is survived by his brothers; James and Mike McKnight, his sister Mary Droke, his daughter Meggan Orahood and his son Ryan McKnight, and his 4 grandchildren.He was proceeded in death by his parents and sister Paula Mick. At his request, no services will be held.Due to Mr. McKnight's love for the sea, his ashes will be scattered in his hometown waters of Puget Sound, WA.
