Robert J. Farris (Bob), passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 17, 2018. He was born on July 20, 1923 in East St. Louis, IL, to George W. and Hannah Farris.He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, B. Juanita Farris (Nita).Bob and Nita were devoted to their family, as survived by two daughters, Janis Reese and Susan Lewis; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.Bob was a proud veteran who enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in 1942 during World War II. He served as an aviator and flight instructor during World War II (Army Air Corps) and the Korean War (USAF). Bob remained active in the Air National Guard of North Dakota, the 178th Fighter Inceptor Squadron, the 119th Fighter Group, a "Happy Hooligan" until 1963. He retired after 20 years of service, with the military rank of a Major. He was a Patriot in every sense, who loved his country and willingly defended the freedoms we share.Bob Farris had a success life in many professional facets. He started his career as a livestock buyer for Armour and Company in Fargo, ND. He ventured into the business of custom home building. He became an entrepreneur with the ownership of the Holiday Inn in Moorhead, MN. He relocated his family and business to Phoenix in 1969. He continued his career in hotel property expansion and development in the Southwest. Always a pilot, Bob flew his own private aircraft. He shared his flying passion with family and friends resulting in many memories from trips shared.Bob retired to Sun City and Sun City West in the 1990's where he remained active as a Realtor. In retirement, Bob enjoyed reminiscing with friends about the military aircraft he had the pleasure to have flown.Bob lived his life with honor, integrity, optimism and respect for others. His legacy is devotion to his family, optimistic enthusiasm for life and service to our country.Family graveside service and interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. In memory of Bob, enjoy a beautiful Arizona sunset over his beloved White Tank Mountains.
