Rio Reimagined Project gets liaison
The Associated Press/Matt York
Fisherman fish the Salt River in Mesa. The 200-mile long stream cuts through central Arizona and is blocked at the Granite Reef Diversion Dam which diverts almost all the water in the Salt River into the Arizona and South Canals serving metropolitan Phoenix with irrigation and drinking water.

A new liaison has been named for the Rio Reimagined Project —a program to help revitalize the Rio Salado, Aqua Fria and Gila rivers, a Maricopa Association of Governments press release said.
The liaison — Cindi Ptak of Hummingbird Collective Consulting LLC — will work with local partners and the federal government as part of the Urban Waters Federal Partnership, the press release said.
“We are excited to serve as the host for the ambassador," said MAG Chair and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego. "The selection of the ambassador will reinforce and extend the goals of the initiative to strengthen communities, promote economic development, and protect the river ecosystem as a valued natural and cultural asset.”
The project aspires to "reconnect the community with the river, to establish a unified vision, to be a catalyst for economic growth and inclusion, and to build a unique regional" destination, the city of Phoenix website said.
