Q&A: Kavanagh, Dugger seek election to Arizona Senate for District 3

LD 3 includes north Scottsdale, Cave Creek, Fountain Hills and Anthem

Standing house representative John Kavanagh, R-Fountain Hills, and newcomer Thomas Dugger, D-Phoenix, are competing for Legislative District 3’s Arizona State Senate seat in the upcoming midterm elections.

From the Republican Party, John Kavanagh, who currently represents District 23 in the House, earned the party’s vote in the Aug. 2 primary election, beating out Jan Dubauskas for the nomination.  Following the 2020 U.S. Census, the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission has reassigned districts, changing former LD23 to LD3.

Conversely, Thomas Dugger, the Democratic party’s choice, received the nomination unopposed in the primaries. Dugger is originally from New Jersey and has served as a precinct councilperson for Coyote Basin, according to Ballotpedia.
