Police: Scottsdale shooting an apparent murder-suicide

A Scottsdale couple has died from a suspected murder-suicide on April 11, police officials say.

Just prior to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, Scottsdale Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting at a residence in the 8600 block of East Thornwood Drive, officials say.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a female subject to the front of the residence with gunshot wounds.

“She was quickly extricated from the scene and transported to an area hospital,” officials said in a prepared statement.  “Tragically, she did not survive her injuries.”

Police say it was learned that the male shooter, who is the victim’s husband, had gone back into the house. Based on this information, police initiated barricade procedures.

For several hours officers attempted to establish communication with the male shooter with no success, police said.

At 10:45 p.m., SWAT officers made entry to the home where the male was discovered deceased from what official believe to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The names of the victim and suspect are not being released at this time pending notifications. Police say they are in the early stages of the active investigation, and more updates will be provided when available.
