Posted

The city of Phoenix and officials with Valley Metro will celebrate the first trains running on the South Central Avenue line as testing is beginging for that sector of light rail.

The event will be 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, March 8, at the Central Avenue and Baseline Road Park-and-Ride, 7436 S. Central Ave.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, Vice Mayor Ann O'Brien and Councilmember Carolos Galindo-Elvira along with Valley Metro CEO Jessica Mefford-Miller will be on hand as the trains are expected to arrive at the station about 10:30.

The extension of this line will bring light rail trains from downtown Phoenix to Baseline along Central. The project includes a new light rail transit station in Phoenix with new public artworks. Officials say the work is at 96% completion.
