PHOENIX — The Phoenix Symphony on Wednesday announced today the appointment of Naquana Borrero, as Vice President of Development.

An accomplished fundraising executive and classically trained singer, Borrero brings more than 15 years of nonprofit leadership and has helped secure more than $48 million in philanthropic and public investment throughout her career.

In her new role, Borrero will lead the Symphony’s philanthropic strategy and development operations, working closely with President and CEO Peter Kjome, the Board of Directors and colleagues across the organization.

Borrero will help the Symphony advance CRESCENDO: The Campaign for The Phoenix Symphony, a $60 million comprehensive campaign investing in the Symphony’s artistic excellence, community impact and long-term future. She will lead development efforts for the campaign while strengthening major and principal giving, institutional partnerships, donor engagement and the infrastructure needed to sustain the organization for generations to come.

“Naquana brings an exceptional combination of fundraising expertise, artistic connection and a deep commitment to community,” stated Kjome in a news release. “As we advance CRESCENDO and look toward the Symphony’s next chapter, her leadership will be instrumental in strengthening our relationships with donors and expanding the community of people who believe in the power and impact of this orchestra. We are thrilled to welcome her to The Phoenix Symphony.”

Borrero joins The Phoenix Symphony from Jazz in Arizona/The Nash, where she was a member of the executive leadership team. During her tenure, she led the organization’s Swinging for Success capital campaign and the expansion of its performance and education facilities. She is also founder and CEO of Bella Vita Consulting Group, a Phoenix-based fund development consulting firm advising nonprofit and mission-driven organizations.

“I started as a classically trained singer, so coming home to an orchestra means a lot to me,” Borrero stated in the release. “The Phoenix Symphony was built by generations of people who loved it, believed in it and invested in its future. My job is to honor that legacy and invite more people in, because this Symphony belongs to all of us.”

Borrero is also excited to support the far reach of the Symphony’s activities.

“Not only does the Symphony produce world-class musical performances, but its impact also reaches far beyond the concert hall,” she stated in the release. “It reaches children learning in classrooms, brings joy through music to people experiencing homelessness and offers moments of peace and connection to those in hospice care. That kind of impact deserves the support of the entire Valley.”

A Certified Fund-Raising Executive and Certified Community Legal Advocate, Borrero is a graduate of the Strategic Fundraising program at Harvard Kennedy School and the Crane School of Music. She serves as Immediate Past President of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Arizona Chapter, Second Vice President of Finance and Fund Development for the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Phoenix Metropolitan Chapter, and a Sustainability and Engagement Fellow with Innovation 4 Justice at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law.

Borrero’s honors include recognition as a Greater Phoenix Chamber ATHENA Award recipient, Phoenix Business Journal 40 Under 40 honoree, and Greater Phoenix Urban League Young Professionals Rising Star Award recipient.
