Phoenix state senator resigns
Posted
Independent Newsmedia
Sen. Steve Kaiser, R-Phoenix, has submitted his resignation effective Friday, June 16, according to published news reports.
Kaiser was elected to represent State Senate District 2 in the 2022 election, and assumed office on Jan. 8. Prior, he served in the House of Representatives for one term.
Kaiser told Valley media outlets that his decision to resign is to spend time with his family and work on his 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization called Arizona Prosperity Project.
“Sen. Kaiser was a phenomenal senator and public servant in general," Senate President Warren Petersen said in an emailed statement to the Daily Independent. "He did everything with 110% effort. His work ethic was second to no one. He will be deeply missed at the Legislature.”
District 2 is in north Phoenix from 43rd Avenue on the west to State Route 51 in the east; and from Sonoran Desert Drive in the north to about Cactus Road at its southern boundary.
To fill Kaiser’s seat, three candidates will be nominated by Republican precinct committeemen, with one ultimately selected and appointed by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.
