Phoenix Rock Lottery returns Saturday to raise money for Rosie's House

INDEPENDENT NEWSMEDIA
Musicians will gather Saturday morning in Phoenix to form five news bands.
Saturday night, they will take the stage and perform.
It’s called the Phoenix Rock Lottery, when 25 musicians are grouped randomly, write original songs, learn a cover song and perform their sets for the first time at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, in the Crescent Ballroom, 308 N. 2nd Ave., Phoenix. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $15 on the day of the show ($13 prior), and proceeds benefit Rosie's House, a local nonprofit that delivers “the underserved youth of the greater Phoenix area the gift of music education through instruments and free instruction,” a release announcing the event stated.
The 2023 Phoenix Rock Lottery, the ninth annual event, will feature a new group of musicians, according to the release.
No musicians from the previous lotteries were included, although a number of performers come from bands previously represented, organizers said.
“What excites me about this year is how many new artists are involved,” said Phoenix Rock Lottery producer Stephen Chilton of Psyko Steve Presents.
“The first year I knew every artist really well personally from working with them for years. Nine years later, many of the artists playing are very new, and I just know their art or their band.
“I hope people come and discover something new.”
This year’s event will be hosted by Dani Cutler of KWSS.
