A 53-year-old man is dead following a weekend shooting in the parking lot of a business near 2400 East Van Buren Street, police said.

Maurice Stewart died at a hospital following the shooting that occurred about 1:40 a.m. Nov. 30, and Nicholas Rutledge, 20, is in jail and charged with first-degree murder, according to a release from the Phoenix Police Department.

After finding the suspect’s vehicle, officers attempted to contact Rutledge, but he ran away from authorities. A foot chase ensued, but officers were able to take him into custody, the release stated.

Detectives said an argument led to the shooting.
