Phoenix art exhibition celebrates Grand Avenue’s colorful legacy

Five15Arts collective honors artist and arts district pioneer Beatrice Moore with unconventional creations

Five15Arts @ Chartreuse will present “Plush Plastic Pop,” a November group exhibition celebrating Beatrice Moore, whose colorful artwork and longtime support of artists helped shape Phoenix’s Grand Avenue Arts District.

For the exhibition, members of the Five15Arts collective visited Moore’s now-closed Kooky Kraft Shop on Grand Avenue, selecting vintage craft materials from her collection, a press release explains. Plastic doll parts, pom-poms, artificial flowers, googly eyes and other supplies became the inspiration for new works reflecting the district’s unconventional artistic character.

“It was such an intriguing and delightful way to expand our art practice, using materials we wouldn’t have otherwise considered,” Wendy Raisanen, Five15Arts @ Chartreuse president, shared in a statement.
