Phoenix Symphony to resume concerts after financial crisis

Fundraising brings musicians back to stage Nov. 12; Ballet Arizona’s ‘The Nutcracker’ show also restored

Less than three weeks after a financial crisis halted its season and left 66 musicians temporarily without pay, the Phoenix Symphony is preparing to perform again.

The orchestra announced Friday that fundraising commitments will allow concerts to resume Thursday, Nov. 12, following a suspension announced Oct. 20.

The financial emergency forced the Symphony to suspend performances after Nov. 1, with the musicians laid off without pay Nov. 2. Their return to the stage begins with Brahms’ “Serenade No. 1” at the Musical Instrument Museum on Nov. 12, followed by “Music of the Knights: Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sir Elton John & Sir Paul McCartney,” led by Principal Pops Conductor Stuart Chafetz, Nov. 13-15 at Symphony Hall.
