Citizens can provide suggested names for Peoria’s next community park, and win a bike.
The city is in the planning stages for its third community park, which will be located east of Dixileta Road and Lake Pleasant Parkway, according to a news release.
City officials would like to have the park named prior to the anticipated groundbreaking in November. The park will include features such as lighted youth baseball and soccer fields, an urban fishing lake, open turf, dog park, water splash area, a large play zone, picnic areas, trailhead, ramadas and more.
“I am thrilled with the addition of another beautiful park to call our own in Peoria and I am just as excited it will be named by one of our citizens,” Mesquite District Councilmember Bridget Binsbacher said in a news release. “I encourage Peoria citizens of all ages to get creative and submit their suggestions for Peoria’s newest addition to our park system.”
Park names can describe the geographical area in which it is located, recognize a name within a specific community, subdivision or development, or it can reflect something unique to Peoria, the Valley or the Southwest. Unless there are special circumstances, parks are not generally named after people.
All Peoria citizens are invited to help name the park. All submissions will be entered into a drawing to win a mountain bike, courtesy of Target, or a $150 gift card to Bikers Edge in Old Town Peoria. All name suggestions must include the submitter’s full name, address, telephone number and a description of the park name suggestions. Including an e-mail address is optional. To submit a park name suggestions, visit www.peoriaaz.gov/nameourpark. The deadline for name submissions is Thursday, June 15, 2017.
Submitted names will be forwarded to the Peoria Parks and Recreation Board for review. The Board will review the submissions and forward about five names to the City Council for final determination.
